2014-2015 School Year
Third graders just finished up creating some amazing "Tin Forest" additive sculptures. They used wood and silver paint to disguise the wood as tin! Now they are working on discovering the parts of a landscape along with learning about acrylic painting techniques! They will be making landscapes paintings of all different countries!
Our first project in third grade this year has been creating self portraits! We have been learning about facial proportions and discovering different ways to create facial features! We will be creating a school mural of portraits when they are all complete! Check out our final portraits on Artsonia.com!
2013-2014 School Year
Second graders are creating personal symbols that represent themselves with student teacher Ms. Schneider.
Second graders have been creating musical instrument sculptures using recycled materials! (Thank you to everyone who sent in materials!) They have designed and built their instrument, used paper mache to cover them and will soon be playing them in music class!
Students have been inspired by the book Sky Tree by Thomas Locker and have been creating their own sky trees! They have been discovering how to create positive and negative space in their work! In addition they have been collaboratively creating murals of the Ford Street Bridge from how it looked in 1917 and how it looks today!
Second graders have been working on creating cyanotypes which are photos made using the sunlight. They each designed a negative with acetate and sharpie marker, then put their negative on the special cyanotype paper to make their photo. After the photo is exposed and developed we go inside and put it in cold water to stop the development process!
Students are currently working to create portraits and will be painting these on foil.
For their expedition work they will be creating cyanotye photograms (a simple way of capturing a photo) using sunlight and nature paper and hand designed negatives made by each student.
